Christmas Child fundraiser – 2009
In the winter of 2009, the Victory Church young adults group, Ignite, headed up an initiative to raise funds from within Victory Church to help provide gifts for children of families in the church who were struggling during the great recession. Many of these families were having a hard time even providing food for their families.
The inspiration for the initiative came from 20 year old Lauren Martell, a member of Victory Church, who asked if the church would be able to do something for needy children during the Christmas season. Pastor Jeri, the co-senior pastor of Victory Church, heard of the request and came up with the Christmas Child initiative. The initiative was then passed to the young adults group headed by Jason and Cindy Fletcher. Following is a write-up of the success of the initiative found in the church’s weekly bulletin:
A huge thank you to all of those who gave into the Christmas Child fund. We raised $980.60, which allowed us to help several families with a total of 24 children. A special thank you to Jason and Cindy and all of the Young Adults for all of your hard work in blessing so many children with Christmas Gifts.
Other organizations and ministries also gave donations to families in need. The angel food ministry was able to give away boxes of food, the cafe and coin offerings gave proceeds to the Christmas child, and member Andrew Freedman who was a stocker at Publix (a grocery store) was able to get his work to donate bags of items for the giveaway.
